It’s a Newham Thing encourages participants from the London Borough of Newham to re-examine and re-engage with their immediate environment and describe their relationship with their own special places.

As a starting point for this project 25 Newham residents have been asked to nominate their special places mainly within the wards surrounding the Olympic Park.

By exploring and discovering what’s on our doorstep, the project helps us gain a new appreciation of our localities by connecting people and place.

It’s a Newham Thing is an evolving piece of work. As the face of Newham continues to change, this project will allow locals to capture, discuss and explore some of the more transient aspects of the borough. In the future, some of the places on this website may change purpose or cease to exist. This project attempts to capture the evolving nature of such developments; as some places vanish, new places will appear.

This project was delivered by Newham New Deal Partnership (Newham NDP) and created and directed by East London based artist Rayna Nadeem of Dekko Productions.
